Rodriguez has torn tendin in hip, Yankees try to avoid surgery.

While you never hope for the enemy’s player, the most hated player by your fan base mind you, gets hurt and the best players on the teams NOT being on the field has an effect on the season. it’s just not nearly as enjoyable to see a beat up team go down to our club… always will be.

That said, because the fact that Tampa has recently become a serious threat, and likely will be for the next few years, the Red Sox have to first look at making the playoffs in baseball’s toughest division before focusing on another dramatic series against against, the Yankees especially, in the post season. That’s with our without A-Rod… it’s a long and extraordinarily tough draw to make the post season out of the east this year.

Since the “good times” started for us, I know I can admit that I at least in part, have assumed the Sox would make the playoffs every year, via the wild card or the East. This assumption has held true for all years but one and with the amount of injuries sustained that year it’s easy to go back and understand why we missed.

This year with the Yankees strong again, and Tampa staying youthful and potent… the Red Sox face the distinct possibility of missing the playoffs, perhaps by a decent margin with a 100+ million dollar payroll.

That is not to say we are destined to missing the playoffs, but we have two legitimate threats to win the World Series in our division alone, things are going to need to go our way to make it, no sneaking in this year. Sometimes things going your way means other teams being plagued by problems – I’ll take what we can get this year even if it that means the Yankees having injuries.

A-Rod’s statistics year in and year out have been absolutely enormous. He is far and away the best, most productive player in the MLB. You could make an argument that A-Rod makes a much larger impact on the Yankees than some stars on other teams do too.

Without Alex the Yankees fall to a sub .500 club most likely, I believe I last read they are 20-24 since adding him. Their choice to let him try to play through it may bite them in the ass, but it seemed they would be without him for most of the season if opting for surgery.

One last note, one I can’t resist… apparently the Dr’s fully understand A-Rod is needed for the regular season, not the post season.   steroid
